Whiteboards and Dry Wipe Boards:
Education and Business

Whiteboards are dry wipe writing and display surfaces in vitreous enamel steel (fired at 800°C, 25-year surface guarantee, naturally anti-ghosting) and coated steel (cost-effective for offices and meeting rooms, good erasability). Wall-mounted and mobile freestanding with lockable castors. Magnetic versions hold documents and notices alongside writing. Sizes from 900x600mm to 2400x1200mm. Pre-printed grid, planner, and tracker formats. PO accepted from schools and NHS trusts.

A whiteboard is the display format for content that changes multiple times throughout the day and needs to be visible to multiple people simultaneously. The writing session, the brainstorm, the project plan update, the daily briefing: these are activities that printed signage cannot serve and that digital displays serve with friction. A whiteboard on the wall serves them in seconds with any marker and a cloth.

Our whiteboard range covers every professional application. For the format that matches your specific position, see our dedicated collections: magnetic whiteboards for wall-mounted writing and document display combined, freestanding whiteboards on mobile castors for agile and flexible positions, and glass whiteboards for contemporary premium interiors. For dual-purpose writing and pinboard surfaces see our combination boards.

Vitreous Enamel: The Classroom and NHS Standard

Vitreous enamel is produced by firing a glass layer onto steel at 800°C, creating a surface with the hardness and impermeability of glass. Scratch-resistant, naturally anti-ghosting, hygienic, and guaranteed against surface degradation for 25 years. The required specification for UK school classrooms, science labs, and NHS clinical environments where the board is used multiple times daily by multiple users over many years. The 25-year guarantee justifies the higher unit cost against a coated steel board that would need replacement within 5 to 7 years of intensive use.

Coated Steel for Offices and Meeting Rooms

Magnetic coated steel boards provide excellent erasability and good magnet hold for general office use. The practical specification for meeting rooms, reception areas, and general office positions where the board is used regularly but not under the intensive daily demands of a classroom. Boards with magnetic backing allow printed notices, project plans, and reference documents to be held with magnets alongside written content, eliminating the need for separate noticeboard space in compact meeting rooms.

Mobile Freestanding Whiteboards for Agile Positions

Our freestanding whiteboards on lockable castors move between positions within a building without wall fixing, providing a writable surface wherever the session or meeting requires it. Double-sided revolving panels give two full writing surfaces in a single unit, allowing one face to hold the previous session's content while the other is used for the current session. Lockable castors fix the board in position during use and release for repositioning between sessions.

Grid, Planner, and Tracker Boards for Visual Management

Pre-printed grid boards (25mm or 50mm squares) suit mathematics teaching, technical drawing, and graph work in science classrooms. Annual planner and weekly calendar boards suit project management and resource scheduling in corporate environments. In/Out staff trackers and patient tracking boards are the NHS ward management standard, combining the visual management system of a magnetic board with the flexibility of dry wipe annotation for individual patient or staff status updates throughout the shift.

Semi-Matt Enamel for Projection-Compatible Use

Standard gloss whiteboard surfaces reflect projector light, creating bright hot spots that reduce the legibility of the projected image in combined teaching setups. Our semi-matt vitreous enamel boards reduce surface reflectivity while maintaining full dry wipe and magnetic performance. The correct specification for classrooms combining whiteboard use with projector display, and for boardrooms where presentations are projected alongside the whiteboard content.

Sizes from 900x600mm to 2400x1200mm

Our range covers all standard professional whiteboard sizes. 900x600mm suits compact office positions, individual desk positions, and small meeting room walls. 1200x900mm is the standard for small to medium meeting rooms. 1800x1200mm suits larger conference rooms. 2400x1200mm suits classroom and large boardroom positions where the board must be visible from across the room by multiple users simultaneously. Joinable modular panels extend coverage to full whiteboard wall installations without requiring a single oversized unit.

Enamel, Coated Steel, Mobile or Glass?

For classrooms, science labs, and NHS clinical environments with intensive daily use by multiple users, vitreous enamel is the only surface that provides the required durability and anti-ghosting performance at that frequency. For office meeting rooms with regular but less intensive use, coated steel provides excellent performance at a lower cost. For positions that must move between rooms, freestanding mobile whiteboards on castors are the correct format. For contemporary interiors where the board is a design element, glass whiteboards provide a premium aesthetic.

For Schools, Classrooms and NHS

Vitreous enamel magnetic whiteboards are the specification standard for state schools, academies, and NHS trusts. Our 1200x900mm magnetic whiteboard and 1800x1200mm version carry the 25-year surface guarantee required for public sector procurement. PO accepted on 30-day credit terms for all state schools, academies, colleges, universities, and NHS trusts.

For Offices, Meeting Rooms and Agile Working

Coated steel magnetic whiteboards suit meeting rooms. Our freestanding mobile whiteboards with lockable castors and double-sided revolving panels suit open-plan offices, training rooms, and collaborative working environments where the board needs to move between positions or serve different groups throughout the day without being fixed to a specific wall.

For Contemporary Offices and Premium Interiors

Our glass whiteboards use toughened safety glass on chrome standoff mounts for a premium floating wall installation. The completely smooth glass surface provides the most ghost-free writing experience of any whiteboard type and accepts dry wipe markers without any surface porosity. Neodymium magnets required to penetrate the glass thickness to the steel plate. Available in white and coloured glass options.

What is the difference between vitreous enamel and coated steel whiteboards?
Vitreous enamel is produced by firing a glass layer onto the steel substrate at 800°C. The result has the hardness and impermeability of glass: scratch-resistant, naturally anti-ghosting, hygienic, and guaranteed for 25 years. The correct choice for classrooms, science labs, and clinical environments with intensive daily use by multiple users. Coated steel uses a lacquer coating applied to the steel surface. More affordable, good erasability and magnetic performance for general office use, but more susceptible to surface scratching and ghosting under heavy use over time. The correct choice for meeting rooms and offices with regular but less intensive use.
What causes ghosting and how do I prevent it?
Ghosting (faint marks from previous writing visible through new content) results from marker ink absorbing into microscopic surface pores over time. To minimise it: wipe clean immediately after each session; use high-quality dry wipe markers; clean weekly with specialist whiteboard spray and a microfibre cloth. Do not use household glass cleaners or alcohol-based sprays as these leave a residue that increases ink absorption. For environments where ghosting is a persistent problem despite regular cleaning, upgrade to a vitreous enamel board whose glass-like surface has no pores for ink to absorb into. If permanent marker is accidentally used, write over it with a standard dry wipe marker and wipe both away immediately while wet.
Are all whiteboards magnetic?
No. Only whiteboards with a steel substrate (vitreous enamel and coated steel models) have a magnetic backing that holds magnets. Melamine and laminate whiteboards are for writing only and do not hold magnets. All of our enamel and coated steel boards are magnetic. Our glass whiteboards require neodymium (rare earth) magnets to penetrate the glass thickness to the steel plate; standard whiteboard magnets are too weak to hold on glass boards.
Can I use a whiteboard with a projector?
Standard gloss whiteboard surfaces reflect projector light, creating hot spots that reduce the legibility of the projected image. For combined projection and writing use, specify a semi-matt vitreous enamel board, which reduces surface reflectivity while maintaining full dry wipe and magnetic performance. Minimise the projection angle to reduce surface glare. Fully interactive whiteboard installations (where the projected image is touch-responsive) typically use dedicated interactive flat panels rather than standard whiteboards, as the interactivity is built into the display unit itself.
How do I install a wall-mounted whiteboard?
Standard whiteboards come with a corner fixing kit: screws and wall plugs. Remove the corner caps, drill at the required height, insert wall plugs appropriate for your wall type (solid plaster, brick, or plasterboard stud), drive the screws, then press the corner caps over the screw heads for a clean finish. Two people are recommended for boards larger than 1200x900mm to hold the board level against the wall during marking and fixing. Larger boards may use a concealed wall rail or split batten system rather than corner fixing; check the individual product installation guide before ordering fixings.
What sizes of whiteboard are available?
Our range covers standard whiteboard sizes from 900x600mm for compact office positions up to 2400x1200mm for large classroom and boardroom walls. The most common meeting room size is 1200x900mm. 1800x1200mm suits larger rooms where the board must be visible from seated positions across a table. 2400x1200mm suits classrooms where multiple students need to write simultaneously or where large-scale work on the board is viewed from the back of the room. Check individual product pages for exact board dimensions including the frame border width.
