Getting the Most out of a Clothes Steamer

May 4th, 2012

Over the past few years the usage of clothes steamers has become widespread, particularly throughout the various facets of the fashion industry.

As technology has improved, the humble garment steamer has become smaller, more powerful and more adaptable to daily use in a wider array of locations.

Below are a few of tips you may find useful when purchasing and using a steamer which are relevant whether you’re a retailer planning to promote your clothing on shop fittings or if you’re a home owner looking to save time on ironing.

5 Tips for Using Your Steamer

Choosing the right unit: We understand that not everyone purchasing a steamer has the same circumstances. This is why we offer steamers in a wide range of styles, colours, powers, sizes and designs. Choosing one that suits your personal needs is easy – simply choose either ‘commercial’ or ‘domestic’ and then use price, power and other attributes to whittle down your search

Descaling your steamer: Depending on the area you live, the water you use can vary dramatically in its overall quality. ‘Hard water’ poses a problem in many areas of the UK and can potentially be damaging to the inner workings of a clothes steamer. Using steamer descaler solution is a great way of prolonging the life of the unit.

Underside steaming: You may find that a few articles of clothing are better suited to being steamed from the opposite side. This is particularly relevant to any piece of clothing that has decorations on the front that may make it difficult to touch the material directly with the steam head.

Managing condensation: Water droplets and larger areas of condensation can sometimes collect on the steamer if the head is not presented in an upright position. It’s always worth keeping an eye on any condensation to help avoid garments getting wet if they were to come into contact with the liquid.

Traveller?: Making sure you’ve always got a steamer at hand, even when you’re on the road, is important for many of our customers. Investing in one of our growing range of hand-held travel steamers is a great solution for anyone who travels a lot but needs to have the instant ability to steam their clothing on or off clothes hangers.

We hope that these tips help you whenever you’re using your steamer or searching for a new one. For those looking for an all round steamer we tend to advise purchasing a Beststeam (code: GAR1500). We’re always looking to source the newest and best steamers to add to our hugely popular existing selection of units so make sure you check back regularly to ensure you don’t miss out!

Stolen Wiltshire Lectern Turns Up in Romanian Village

January 5th, 2012

A church lectern that was stolen from a Wiltshire church has reportedly been seen in a Romanian village.

A member of the public noticed an engraving on the lectern which mentioned the Holy Cross Church in Ashton Keynes.

After checking on the internet to check if it was a stolen piece, the man contacted Wiltshire police.

PC Steve Harvey was quoted as saying that the discovery was “…completely out of the blue”.

He continued: “I thought it was a scam email but it had a mobile number on it. So I called the person” … “and he said he’d seen this unusual piece in a village in Romania and when he looked at it – he noticed the Ashton Keynes engraving.”

Thought to be worth around £2000, the 4ft brass lectern, which features an eagle design, went missing an unknown time ago.

The church artefact was thought to have been melted down but now looks likely to be returned.

Working alongside Interpol, Wiltshire Police are continuing to investigate the lecterns current location.

September 26th, 2011

A bold new campaign designed to promote the UK to other nations is set to hit brochure holders and poster displays.

Whilst reactions to the campaign have been mixed, many expect to see more brochure holders and poster displays being used to promote the country as 2012 approaches.

Bear Avoidance Tips Available from Montana Brochure Dispensers

September 16th, 2011

Bear Avoidance Tips available from Montana Brochure DispensersMontana brochure dispensers will soon feature informative materials that offer tips to hunters on avoiding bears in the region, according to the Lake County Leader.

The news statement read: “huckleberry-pickers, hikers, and, soon, bird hunters and archery hunters” can all benefit from the important safety tips that are discussed in the new brochure.

Some of these safety precautions include letting a friend or relative know where the hunting will be taking place and when it is scheduled to finish, calling out or talking loudly to make your presence known and carrying bear spray and knowing how to properly use it. Hiking in groups and keeping children close at all times is another important point raised in the brochure.

Backpackers are also reminded that food storage orders are now in effect for many of the national parks. These orders require food items to be at least 10 feet above the ground and 4 feet from top and side supports.

Brochure dispensers in the area are expected to be regularly stocked as Montana boasts the most hunters per capita than any other state in the U.S.

Displaysense freeze prices to aid cash strapped councils

    April 12th, 2010

Displaysense has announced it is to freeze prices in an effort to assist public bodies such as councils in the face of budget cuts following the recession.

With the UK economy still teetering on the cliff edge of economic recovery, everyone from small businesses to Alistair Darling are set for a new decade of belt tightening in order to reduce the countries debts. With more than 250,000 people currently employed in the public sector, this area is set to be hit hardest as budgets are slashed and the prospect of major job losses seem inevitable.

In order to help prevent future job losses, Displaysense, a leading supplier of display cabinets and cake stands to retailers and public bodies in the UK, has vowed to freeze the prices of its most popular ranges over the next couple of months.

The company, which has experienced price increases from their suppliers and who are also suffering from the ever escalating prices of fuel, has promised to absorb all of these costs until the start of June. As public sector bodies are set to start a new financial year in April, procurement managers are being encouraged to make the most of this price freeze and purchase their business card holders and display cases now.

With spending cuts being estimated between 5% and 20% from council to council, not only will those currently employment by a public sector body suffer, but also the general public who depend on grants or support from the government to get by.

Steve Whittle the marketing manager at Displaysense commented: “Throughout the 30 year history at Displaysense, we have always had a long standing relationship with councils. We appreciate their business and are trying to do what we can to ease their short term pressures and their long term concerns.”

According to a recent survey carried out by BBC English regions, some councils may experience up to 1000 job losses each, which will only push the level of unemployment back up and impact on the stability of the economies recovery.

Although the price freeze at Displaysense might not be the answer to the public sectors prayers, it is hoped that other suppliers will follow suit and play their part in keeping the countries unemployment level down and keeping the UK economy up.
