Getting the Most out of a Clothes Steamer

May 4th, 2012

Over the past few years the usage of clothes steamers has become widespread, particularly throughout the various facets of the fashion industry.

As technology has improved, the humble garment steamer has become smaller, more powerful and more adaptable to daily use in a wider array of locations.

Below are a few of tips you may find useful when purchasing and using a steamer which are relevant whether you’re a retailer planning to promote your clothing on shop fittings or if you’re a home owner looking to save time on ironing.

5 Tips for Using Your Steamer

Choosing the right unit: We understand that not everyone purchasing a steamer has the same circumstances. This is why we offer steamers in a wide range of styles, colours, powers, sizes and designs. Choosing one that suits your personal needs is easy – simply choose either ‘commercial’ or ‘domestic’ and then use price, power and other attributes to whittle down your search

Descaling your steamer: Depending on the area you live, the water you use can vary dramatically in its overall quality. ‘Hard water’ poses a problem in many areas of the UK and can potentially be damaging to the inner workings of a clothes steamer. Using steamer descaler solution is a great way of prolonging the life of the unit.

Underside steaming: You may find that a few articles of clothing are better suited to being steamed from the opposite side. This is particularly relevant to any piece of clothing that has decorations on the front that may make it difficult to touch the material directly with the steam head.

Managing condensation: Water droplets and larger areas of condensation can sometimes collect on the steamer if the head is not presented in an upright position. It’s always worth keeping an eye on any condensation to help avoid garments getting wet if they were to come into contact with the liquid.

Traveller?: Making sure you’ve always got a steamer at hand, even when you’re on the road, is important for many of our customers. Investing in one of our growing range of hand-held travel steamers is a great solution for anyone who travels a lot but needs to have the instant ability to steam their clothing on or off clothes hangers.

We hope that these tips help you whenever you’re using your steamer or searching for a new one. For those looking for an all round steamer we tend to advise purchasing a Beststeam (code: GAR1500). We’re always looking to source the newest and best steamers to add to our hugely popular existing selection of units so make sure you check back regularly to ensure you don’t miss out!

Home owners can feel the benefits of both the heavy duty and standard options of clothing rails. However we also offer a fantastic range of lower price options to choose from. These include our highly functional cardboard clothes rail boxes which are perfect for moving house or storing your clothes safely.

Complimenting Your Rail Displays

Add coat hangers to your order to create an instantly usable unit. For retailers we also suggest using garment steamers such as our best selling GAR1500 Beststeam clothes steamer to keep all garments being hung in crisp, clean and perfect condition.

Delayed Ban on Tobacco Shop Fitting Displays

January 20th, 2012

Retailers of larger stores in Scotland have seen the legislation that would have prevented them from displaying tobacco in its current form shelved.

Originally intended to come into effect some time in April, the restrictions on how larger shops can display cigarettes and other smoking materials will have to be reassessed.

The move to restrict how shop fittings can be used to display tobacco is part of a mounting attempt by many international governments to “ protect children and young people from the promotion of tobacco.”

Smaller shop owners will see the legislation come into effect in 2015.

The ban will make it an offence to display tobacco or smoking-related products.

Only an area measuring less than 1000 sq cm will be permitted to be on open and on display when a sale is being made.

A proposed fixed penalty fine of £200 will be in place for those who fail to adhere to these new strict shop fitting display laws.

Other measure involving bans on vending machines and tougher penalties for those selling tobacco to under 18s is all part of Scotlands increasing campaign to “make cigarettes less attractive and accessible to young people”.

Ohio Gunman Turns Out To Be Mannequin

January 13th, 2012

Police in the US state of Ohio are reportedly pursuing charges against a prankster who’s practical joke got out of hand.

Tammy Moore, 46, is now facing charges of ‘inducing panic’ for a family joke that deputies apparently fail to see the funny side of.

Police in Bethel Township were called after a figure was spotted on a front porch brandishing a suspected firearm.

After arriving at the scene, drawing their weapons and reportedly attempting to negotiate with the intruder the police realised it was, in fact, a dressed up mannequin complete with toy shotgun.

Video of the realistic mannequin shows it to be dressed in a chequered red and black hooded top and blue jeans.

The family involved have been quoted as saying they ‘have a history of pulling pranks on each other’.

This latest mannequin incident may encourage the family to think again next time they decide to play a joke.

Stolen Wiltshire Lectern Turns Up in Romanian Village

January 5th, 2012

A church lectern that was stolen from a Wiltshire church has reportedly been seen in a Romanian village.

A member of the public noticed an engraving on the lectern which mentioned the Holy Cross Church in Ashton Keynes.

After checking on the internet to check if it was a stolen piece, the man contacted Wiltshire police.

PC Steve Harvey was quoted as saying that the discovery was “…completely out of the blue”.

He continued: “I thought it was a scam email but it had a mobile number on it. So I called the person” … “and he said he’d seen this unusual piece in a village in Romania and when he looked at it – he noticed the Ashton Keynes engraving.”

Thought to be worth around £2000, the 4ft brass lectern, which features an eagle design, went missing an unknown time ago.

The church artefact was thought to have been melted down but now looks likely to be returned.

Working alongside Interpol, Wiltshire Police are continuing to investigate the lecterns current location.

Marks & Spencers Unveil Shop Fittings In New Paris Store

November 25th, 2011

UK Retail giant Marks and Spencers have returned to the continent for the first time in a decade and are set to open the doors of their flagship Parisian store today.

Situated on the iconic Avenue des Champs Elysées, the store will offer French customers the chance to experience the clothing and food lines that have become so popular in the UK.

The stores shop fittings will be used to display a number of quintessential British products as well as items targeted at the French market.

Covering three storeys, the UK company will replace Esprit in the 8th arrondissement, within the shadow of the Arc de Triomphe.

Parisian Shop Fittings

English favourites such as Earl Grey tea and pork pies will now be available to visitors of the French capital, although the food section is limited to just 100sq metres of the 1,400sq metre retail space.

Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will join the company chief executive Marc Bolland to open the doors of the bold new store.

Mr Bolland commented: “We are not into fast fashion. We are not producing clothes that have to be thrown away after six washes or a couple of months because they have lost their colour or shape or have shrunk.”

“The French wrote to us too saying they missed M&S. They were looking for cashmere sweaters.”

European Fashion & Retail Displays

The return to the French market will be a welcome sight for many expats, who witnessed the 38 European stores shut down back in 2001, including 10 outlets in Paris itself.

The withdrawal from Europe in order to focus on the British market is now widely regarded by analysts as a poor decision by the company.

However, with rumoured plans to open a further five Paris stores, it looks like this time M&S are here to stay.

U.S Family Photo Found in Shop Fittings Display

November 15th, 2011

A mother in the United States was recently shocked to discover a photo of her family used in a stores shop fittings.

A treasured family snap of Natalie Winquist, her husband and her 5 children was on display in a well known furniture store and was noticed by close friends.

Whilst shopping in Draper, Utah they recognised the Wyquist family displayed in a pink oval photo frame.

Mrs Winquist, who lives with her husband Cam and their children Drew, 18, Colby, 16, Jody, 13, Jessie, 10, and Sadie, six, approached the store after finding out about the picture.

The company agreed to immediately remove the picture from the store and explained they had taken the picture from a stock photography company.

The image had initially been used on the families own blog which was used to update friends and relatives.

However, it now appears that the photograph had been taken without their knowledge and then had found its way online as a stock image.

Mrs Winquist commented: ‘Maybe I’m just naive and don’t understand that when I do put it on the Internet, it’s there for anybody. But I guess I never imagined it being used in that context.

‘I personally think I have pretty cute kids. But there’s something that bugs me about somebody benefiting from our family’s photo that was kind of meant for family and friends only.’

Brochure dispensers in the area are expected to be regularly stocked as Montana boasts the most hunters per capita than any other state in the U.S.
