Ron Johnson, CEO of JCPenny and former retail chief for Apple has recently been quoted singing the praises of display mannequins.
Speaking to Bloomberg’s Business Week, Johnson revealed how the use of mannequins is playing a major role in the physical revamp of the company’s stores currently underway.
“”I love the heavy use of mannequins, the focus on display. I like that every environment is pure…” he was quoted as saying about the widely used fashion shop fittings.
He continued: “I think we bought 55,000 mannequins. All new mannequins, more energy, better style.”
Speaking about the details of how these mannequins will be used in and around the store Johnson highlighted a shift toward using professional designers to achieve the best possible results.
“Historically the merchant picked the mannequin. We now let the design teams do that, because they tend to mix things in a way that is really artful.”
The revamp is part of JCPenny’s well documented attempt to turnaround the ailing company by introducing a new look and feel to the retail outlets.
Still regarded by many as the ultimate fashion display option, the mannequin continues to be a mainstay of clothing retail industries.
