Spooky Shop Fittings to Rise as Halloween Keeps on Growing

October 31st, 2012

Yet again retail forecasts for this Halloween have shown how far the holiday has come over the last few years as a consumer event.

Figures indicate that there has been a 12.1% year-on-year increase in Halloween accessories adorning the shop fittings up and down the country.

Just 11 yrs ago, Halloween saw the public spend in the region of £12 million. This year it is projected that spend will be nearer £353 million.

This steady rise in consumer spending during Halloween has seen it become an important holiday for UK businesses and the high street.

Embracing the American attitude, many shops and stores bring in Halloween specific products or decorate their mannequins, shop windows or display cabinets to engage with customers.

One UK retailer to see large increases in consumer interest with Halloween has been Waitrose.

Alison McLoughlin their seasonal manager was quoted as saying: “Halloween is one of the fastest growing seasonal events in the UK and this year is going be the biggest ever.

“We’ve ordered in 25 per cent more stock of all party props to cope with demand.”

Valentines day now seems to come in as 4th most popular national occasion, behind Christmas, Easter and All Hallows’ Eve.

Growth is expected to continue for the foreseeable future so Britain’s high streets could easily see more detailed and elaborate shop windows and retail shop fittings being created to match the demand from the public.
