For best illuminated display results, use backlit film printing rather than standard opaque paper: the LED backlight transmits through translucent backlit film to produce the full colour intensity the display is designed for.

What is the difference between an LED poster display and a standard snap frame?
A standard snap frame relies entirely on ambient room lighting to illuminate the poster insert. In well-lit environments this is entirely sufficient. An LED poster display has an integrated LED backlight panel behind the poster that generates its own consistent illumination regardless of ambient light levels. The LED unit is appropriate when the display position has low or variable ambient lighting, when the display is visible outside of normal operating hours (evening retail windows, overnight foyer display), or when the luminous backlit graphic effect is part of the premium aesthetic of the environment.
What type of poster should I use in an LED display?
For the best illuminated result, use backlit film printing rather than standard paper or card. Backlit film is a translucent inkjet or UV-printed material that transmits light through the print, producing the full colour intensity and luminosity the LED backlight is designed to deliver. Standard opaque paper blocks the backlight and produces a dim, flat appearance. Most print shops and online print services offer backlit film as an option when ordering A1 and A2 large-format prints. Standard paper can be used in an LED display but the backlit effect will be significantly reduced.
How is an LED poster display powered?
LED poster displays use mains power with a standard UK 3-pin plug. The power cable is routed through a concealed entry point behind the frame profile, keeping the installation clean. A mains socket must be accessible near the installation position. The unit can be switched on and off at the wall socket or via an in-line switch on the cable depending on the model. LED power consumption is low, typically 15 to 40 watts depending on size, making continuous operation economical for retail and hospitality environments where the display runs throughout business hours.
Can I use an LED poster display outdoors?
Standard LED poster displays are designed for indoor use only. They are not sealed against rain or moisture ingress and are not suitable for permanent outdoor wall installation. For outdoor illuminated display, a weatherproof outdoor lightbox with appropriate IP rating and sealed cable entry is required. If your application is a retail window visible from outside but installed on an internal window-facing wall, the standard indoor LED display is the correct choice as the unit itself remains indoors while the illuminated graphic faces outward through the glass.

How long do the LEDs last and do they need replacing?
The LED panel is rated for over 50,000 hours of continuous operation. At 12 hours per day of operation, this exceeds 11 years of daily use before any reduction in brightness would be expected. LED panels do not fail suddenly like fluorescent tubes; they gradually dim at the very end of their rated life. There are no user-replaceable components within the LED panel, no tubes, no starters, no ballasts. The panel is a sealed unit that requires no maintenance throughout its working life, unlike fluorescent lightboxes that require periodic lamp replacement and specialist WEEE disposal of mercury-containing tubes.
How do I change the poster in an LED display?
The LED display uses the same snap frame mechanism as a standard poster frame. Press all four frame edges open by hand to release the front cover, remove the existing poster or backlit film insert, place the new insert, and press the edges closed. The LED panel remains in the unit throughout and does not need to be removed or disturbed for poster changes. The full change takes under 60 seconds. There is no need to disconnect the power cable to change the poster.
