What is A1 paper size in mm and cm?

A1 paper is 594 x 841mm (59.4 x 84.1cm). It is exactly double the size of A2 (420x594mm) and four times the size of A3 (297x420mm). A1 is the standard size for large retail posters, cinema poster boards, health and safety law posters, and flipchart paper. Standard printers do not print A1 — you will need a large format print service or a print shop. Our A1 snap frames accept any print produced to the A1 ISO standard without trimming.

Should I choose 25mm or 32mm profile for A1?

For A1, we recommend the 32mm profile. At this size, the poster and PVC cover sheet together are larger and heavier than at smaller sizes. The 32mm profile grips the poster edge more securely and provides greater structural rigidity across the longer frame sides, reducing the risk of bowing over time. The 25mm profile is available and provides a slimmer, more minimal look if aesthetics are the priority, but the 32mm profile is the more practical choice for high-frequency content changes at A1.

How much of the poster does the A1 frame cover?

The frame profile overlaps the edge of your poster by approximately 10mm on each side — this overlap is necessary to grip the poster and cover sheet securely within the spring-loaded edges. When designing print files for A1 snap frames, keep all critical text and design elements at least 15mm in from the edge to ensure nothing important falls behind the frame profile. This is standard print bleed guidance for any framed display at any size.

Are A1 snap frames suitable for outdoor use?

Standard A1 snap frames are indoor-only. The aluminium profile is not sealed against moisture and outdoor humidity and rain would cause the paper poster inside to wrinkle and degrade over time. Do fixings come with A1 snap frames?

Yes. All A1 snap frames include wall plugs and screws. Open the snap edges to reveal the pre-drilled fixing holes hidden beneath the profile, mark the wall, drill, and fix. The holes are concealed when the frame is closed. At A1 scale, two people are recommended during wall installation to hold the frame level while marking and fixing, and to avoid flexing the frame during the process.
