Lockable Poster Cases and
Tamper-Proof Snap Frames

Lockable snap frames and poster cases prevent unauthorised access to poster inserts in public spaces. Two locking mechanisms: sequential Allen key locking where each frame edge must be unlocked individually in sequence, and screw-lock systems where a supplied Allen key releases a hidden fastener. Outdoor waterproof versions add rubber gasket seals rated IP55 and polycarbonate glazing for permanent external installation. Available A4 to A0 in silver and black. 32mm reinforced aluminium profile. Screws and wall plugs supplied; adhesive fixing not recommended in public positions.

Standard snap frames open by hand in seconds, which is the feature that makes them fast to update but unsuitable for public corridors, school halls, and outdoor positions where unauthorised removal of notices is a routine problem. Lockable frames provide identical front-loading poster access using a supplied Allen key while preventing any access to the poster without that tool.

Our most popular lockable frames include the A4 lockable silver snap frame, the A3 lockable version, and the A1 lockable snap frame. For outdoor wall-mounted display, our A2 lockable outdoor poster frame and A0 outdoor lockable poster case add rubber weatherproof seals for permanent external installation.

Sequential Allen Key Locking

Our lockable snap frames use either a sequential locking system (where each frame edge must be unlocked individually in the correct sequence before the frame can open) or a hidden Allen key screw fastener. Both mechanisms mean the frame cannot be opened by pressing the profile by hand, cannot be forced open without visible damage, and requires the supplied opening tool to access the poster insert. The tool is not proprietary hardware; a standard Allen key of the matching size works.

Outdoor Weatherproof Versions with IP55 Seals

Our outdoor lockable poster cases add an internal rubber gasket seal around the full frame perimeter that creates a weatherproof barrier rated to IP55, providing protection against rain, dust, and condensation for permanent external installation. The glazing uses vandal-resistant polycarbonate rather than standard PVC, providing impact resistance against deliberate damage. Used for permanent outdoor menu display, public information boards, and external building wayfinding.

32mm Reinforced Aluminium Profile

Lockable frames use a 32mm reinforced aluminium profile regardless of size, wider and heavier than the 25mm profile used in standard indoor snap frames. The wider profile makes the frame edges harder to grip and pry without the correct tool, provides additional structural rigidity for outdoor frames exposed to wind loading, and gives the frame visual weight appropriate for public institutional environments where a robust professional appearance is part of the security deterrent.

Full Size Range A4 to A0

We stock lockable frames in all ISO sizes: A4 (210x297mm) for toilet inspection rotas, food hygiene certificates, and meeting room door signs, A3 and A2 for health and safety boards and wayfinding, and A1 for retail corridor promotions and cinema lobby display where the frame must resist tampering by members of the public.

Portrait and Landscape with Hidden Fixings

Lockable frames mount in portrait or landscape orientation. Pre-drilled fixing holes are hidden inside the frame profile and revealed when the frame is opened with the Allen key. For all public position installations, use the supplied screws and wall plugs rather than adhesive tape: a frame in a public corridor must resist deliberate pulling force that would separate an adhesive fix from the wall surface.

Silver and Black for Institutional and Modern Settings

Silver lockable frames are the standard for councils, NHS trusts, schools, universities, and transport hubs where the neutral professional finish suits all institutional interior schemes. Black lockable frames suit cinema lobbies, modern retail corridors, and contemporary commercial buildings where the black frame complements the interior aesthetic. Both use the same locking mechanism and 32mm profile.

Indoor Tamperproof or Outdoor Weatherproof?

For indoor public corridors where tampering and unauthorised removal is the concern, choose indoor lockable snap frames with Allen key locking. For outdoor wall-mounted display exposed to rain, choose outdoor lockable poster cases with rubber gasket seals and vandal-resistant polycarbonate glazing. For outdoor positions with both weather and impact exposure, choose the outdoor case with IP55 rating.

For Schools, NHS, and Public Buildings

Our A4 silver lockable snap frame and A3 version are the standard for school corridors, NHS waiting areas, council offices, and university buildings where mandatory notices, fire escape maps, and health and safety information must remain permanently displayed and protected from student and public tampering. PO accepted from all public sector organisations on 30-day credit terms.

For Train Stations, Shopping Centres and Retail

Our A1 lockable snap frame in silver or black suits high-traffic retail corridors, shopping centre directories, and transport hub information boards where unauthorised poster removal and replacement is a known operational problem. The sequential locking mechanism prevents anyone from swapping advertising content without the managing organisation's knowledge and authorisation.

For Outdoor Walls and Building Exteriors

Our A2 lockable outdoor poster frame and A0 black outdoor poster case provide rubber-sealed, IP55-rated, polycarbonate-glazed enclosures for permanent outdoor poster display on building walls, entrance canopies, and external wayfinding positions that must withstand year-round UK weather and resist unauthorised access.

How does a lockable snap frame work?
Unlike standard snap frames where all four spring-loaded edges open by pressing by hand, lockable frames use one of two mechanisms. Sequential locking: each edge has a hidden latch that must be released individually in sequence: pressing the edge by hand does nothing because the latch prevents the spring from releasing. Allen key screw-lock: a hidden fastener on one or more edges is tightened against the profile, preventing it from opening without the correct Allen key to back the screw off first. Both mechanisms mean the frame cannot be opened by someone without the tool, and attempting to force it open would leave visible damage on the profile.
What is the difference between a lockable snap frame and an outdoor poster case?
A lockable indoor snap frame uses the same slim profile as a standard snap frame but with a tool-operated locking mechanism replacing the hand-press spring edges. It is designed for indoor public positions where tampering is the concern but weather is not. An outdoor lockable poster case adds a rubber gasket seal around the full perimeter of the frame, vandal-resistant polycarbonate glazing (instead of standard PVC), and an IP55 weather protection rating for permanent external installation exposed to rain and condensation. Use indoor lockable frames for public interior walls; use outdoor poster cases for external building walls.
Are lockable frames suitable for outdoor use?
Standard indoor lockable snap frames are not weatherproof and are not suitable for permanent outdoor installation, as rain and condensation would damage the paper poster insert through the unsealed profile. For outdoor wall-mounted display, use our lockable outdoor poster cases with rubber gasket seals and IP55 rating. Our range includes outdoor cases from A2 to A0 in silver and black, suitable for covered and uncovered external positions.
What colours are available in lockable snap frames?
Silver is the standard professional finish used across councils, NHS trusts, schools, and institutional buildings where a single neutral colour works across all interior schemes. Black lockable frames are stocked for cinema lobbies, modern retail corridors, corporate office buildings, and contemporary commercial environments. Both finishes use 32mm powder-coated aluminium profiles with identical locking mechanisms. Additional colour options may be available on request for large orders; contact our team.
Can I get replacement Allen keys or opening tools?
Yes. Replacement Allen keys and opening tools are available separately. If your organisation uses lockable frames across multiple buildings and the opening tool is misplaced, replacements can be ordered without replacing the frames. We recommend keeping the opening tool in a secure location accessible only to authorised staff, such as a facilities management office or staff-only area rather than general public access. A standard metric Allen key of the matching size will also work on most models if the supplied tool is lost.
Do you accept Purchase Orders from schools and NHS trusts?
Yes. We accept official Purchase Orders from state schools, academies, colleges, universities, NHS trusts, councils, and all public sector organisations on 30-day credit terms. Contact our team to set up a trade account for your organisation. We supply lockable frames to public sector estates and facilities teams across the UK on consolidated multi-site orders. Volume discounts apply for large quantity orders across multiple buildings or sites in a single purchase order.
Why should I use screw fixing rather than adhesive for lockable frames?
In public environments, someone determined to remove a frame will pull it from the wall with considerable force. Adhesive tape fixing, including heavy-duty double-sided tape, will separate from the wall under this pulling force, potentially taking wall surface with it. Screw and wall plug fixing into plaster, brick, or blockwork provides structural resistance to deliberate removal attempts and is the only fixing method appropriate for lockable frames in public corridors, school halls, and transport hubs. All our lockable frames include screws and wall plugs with the pre-drilled fixing holes accessed by opening the frame with the Allen key.
