Lockable Noticeboards:
Secure Tamperproof Display Cases

Lockable noticeboards are glazed display cases with key-locked hinged doors that allow notices to be read through the polycarbonate or PETG front panel while preventing unauthorised access to the interior. Internal models for school corridors, NHS waiting rooms, and university campus positions. External waterproof models with rubber gasket seals for parish councils, churches, school gates, and community outdoor positions. Fire-retardant Class B versions for corridor compliance. Interior surface options: felt, cork, and magnetic whiteboard. Larger top-hinged external models include gas struts for safe one-person operation. Anodised aluminium frames. PO accepted from public sector organisations.

A standard noticeboard in a public corridor is accessible to anyone: notices can be removed, defaced, or replaced with unauthorised content at any time without staff awareness. A lockable noticeboard presents the same information through a transparent front panel but requires the correct key to access the interior, ensuring that only authorised staff can update the content. In schools, universities, NHS trusts, and local authority buildings where managed statutory and health information must remain in position, the lockable noticeboard is the appropriate specification.

Our lockable range covers indoor tamperproof noticeboards for school, NHS, and campus positions, fully weatherproof external noticeboards for outdoor wall, post, and gate positions, and lockable poster cases for single-poster managed display. For standard open-access noticeboards see our noticeboards collection.

Polycarbonate and PETG Glazing: Shatterproof Safety

We use high-impact polycarbonate or PETG glazing rather than glass on all lockable noticeboards. Glass shatters into dangerous shards under impact; polycarbonate and PETG deform under impact without shattering, making them the safe specification for public-access positions in schools, hospitals, and high-traffic areas where accidental or deliberate impact is a realistic risk. The transparent front panel allows the full notice content to be read from outside the case without the door needing to be opened.

Key Lock with Two Keys: Controlled Staff Access

Every lockable noticeboard is supplied with a heavy-duty barrel lock and two keys. Only staff holding the key can open the case to update, add, or remove notices. Larger boards with doors spanning the full width use two locks at top and bottom for consistent closure across the door width. Keep one key with the facilities manager or site manager and keep the second in a secure separate location as a backup. Replacement keys may be available depending on the barrel type; duplicate the originals immediately after installation rather than waiting until one is lost.

Fire-Retardant Class B for Corridor Compliance

UK building regulations require display surfaces in corridors, stairwells, and fire escape routes to carry BS EN 13501-1 Class B fire rating. This applies to lockable noticeboards as much as to standard open noticeboards in the same positions. We stock specific fire-resistant lockable models with Class B certified fabric interiors and the documentation required to demonstrate compliance during fire safety inspections. Not all lockable boards carry this rating: check the product specification and confirm Class B compliance before purchasing for any corridor or escape route position.

External Waterproof Models for Outdoor Positions

Our external lockable noticeboards have rubber gasket seals around the full door perimeter and water-drainage channels in the frame base, providing weatherproof protection for notices in outdoor wall, post, and gate positions. Parish councils, churches, community centres, sports clubs, and schools displaying notices at the building entrance or gate use external lockable boards to keep printed notices dry and legible through all weather conditions. Standard indoor tamperproof boards are not waterproof and must not be installed in outdoor positions.

Felt, Cork, and Magnetic Whiteboard Interiors

Choose the interior surface appropriate to your use. Felt accepts standard pins and is available in multiple colours for departmental coding. Cork provides a traditional self-healing pin surface for a classic look. Magnetic whiteboard interiors allow both written dry wipe content and magnetically attached documents within the secure case, the specification for NHS nursing station noticeboards and management information boards where both annotation and document display are required simultaneously inside a locked case.

Gas Strut Doors for Safe One-Person Operation

Large top-hinged external lockable noticeboards have heavy doors that would require one hand to hold open and a second person to change notices. Gas strut door supports hold the door open safely and hands-free while the notice board interior is being updated, allowing a single staff member to unlock, open, update notices, close, and relock the board without needing a second person to assist. The gas struts are rated to hold the door weight throughout the working life of the board without adjustment.

Indoor, Outdoor or Fire-Rated?

For indoor public positions in schools, NHS facilities, and universities where notice content must be controlled but the board is protected from weather, choose an indoor tamperproof lockable noticeboard. For outdoor positions at building gates, entrance walls, and community spaces where both security and weatherproofing are required, choose an external waterproof lockable noticeboard. For any position in a corridor, stairwell, or fire escape route, confirm Class B fire-rated fabric on the specific model before purchasing.

For Schools, NHS, and University Campus Positions

Our indoor lockable noticeboards suit school corridor positions displaying statutory health and safety notices, NHS waiting room positions displaying patient information, and university campus positions where notice content must be approved and managed by authorised staff. Fire-retardant Class B versions required for all corridor and escape route positions. PO accepted from all public sector organisations on 30-day credit terms. Certification documentation provided for compliance records.

For Parish Councils, Churches and Community Groups

Our external waterproof lockable noticeboards with rubber gasket seals are the community outdoor standard for parish council notice positions, church gates and entrance walls, community centre and sports club exteriors, and any outdoor position where printed notices must remain legible through British weather. Post-mounting kits are available for gate and post positions where wall mounting is not suitable. Wall and post fixing kits sold separately.

For Managed Statutory Notice Display

Our lockable poster cases in A4, A3, A2, and A1 suit single-poster statutory and regulatory notice display in corridors, fire exit positions, and any location where a specific notice must remain in position and cannot be removed or obscured. Smaller footprint than a full noticeboard case for single-poster positions. The specification for health and safety law poster display and fire procedure notices that must remain permanently in position under UK regulatory requirements.

What is the difference between an indoor lockable noticeboard and an external one?
Indoor tamperproof lockable noticeboards have a secure key-locked glazed door to prevent unauthorised access to the interior, but they are not sealed against moisture and are designed for installation inside buildings. They must not be installed in outdoor positions as rain would penetrate the frame and damage the interior surface and notices. External waterproof lockable noticeboards have rubber gasket seals around the full door perimeter and drainage channels to prevent water ingress, and are rated for permanent outdoor installation. Both types have key locks and transparent glazed fronts; the difference is entirely in the weatherproofing of the case.
Do lockable noticeboards need to be fire-rated in school corridors?
Yes. The BS EN 13501-1 Class B fire-rating requirement for display surfaces in corridors and escape routes applies to lockable noticeboards in the same way it applies to open noticeboards and any other wall-mounted display surface. A lockable noticeboard without fire-rated fabric is non-compliant in a school corridor regardless of whether it has a key lock. Check the individual product specification and confirm Class B certification before purchasing any lockable noticeboard for a corridor, stairwell, or fire escape route position. Displaysense provides certification documentation with all fire-rated boards for compliance records.
What does the capacity description mean (e.g. "4 x A4")?
Lockable noticeboards are often described by their interior capacity in standard A4 sheet equivalents, such as "4 x A4" or "9 x A4". This tells you the maximum number of standard A4 sheets that can be displayed on the interior surface simultaneously without overlapping. A "9 x A4" board has an interior surface approximately 900x630mm, large enough to pin 9 A4 sheets in a 3x3 grid. This is a more useful specification than board dimensions alone because it tells you directly how much notice content the board can display. For mixed-size content including A3 and A4, a "6 x A4" board can typically hold 2 A3 sheets and several A4 sheets simultaneously.
Can external lockable noticeboards be mounted on posts or gates?
Yes. Our external lockable noticeboards are designed for both wall-mounting using the supplied rear fixing brackets and post-mounting using post kits available as a separate accessory. For gate, fence, and freestanding post positions where wall mounting is not available, the post kit provides the correct bracket and fixings for secure post installation. Some fence and railing positions may require a railing mounting kit depending on the fence profile. Confirm the mounting position and available fixing surfaces before ordering to select the correct mounting accessories for your specific installation.
What interior surface should I choose for a lockable noticeboard?
Felt accepts standard push pins and is available in multiple colours for departmental colour-coding. It is the most common interior surface for school and public sector lockable boards. Cork provides a self-healing pin surface with a traditional appearance, suitable for professional offices and public spaces where a natural material aesthetic is preferred. Magnetic whiteboard interiors allow both dry wipe annotation and magnetic document attachment within the locked case, useful for nursing station boards and management information positions where the content includes both written briefings and printed reference documents. For fire-rated boards, the fabric must be fire-retardant regardless of colour or type: confirm fire rating before selecting a specific felt colour.
How are gas struts used on external lockable noticeboards?
Top-hinged external lockable noticeboards open upward by lifting the bottom edge of the door, which is hinged at the top. On large external boards, the door is heavy and would require one hand to hold continuously during notice changes. Gas struts are hydraulic support cylinders attached between the case body and the door that extend as the door opens, applying upward force that counterbalances the door weight and holds the door fully open without manual support. This allows a single staff member to unlock the board, open it, change the notices, and close it again without requiring a second person to hold the door. The gas struts are pre-set to the door weight and do not require adjustment.
Do you accept Purchase Orders from councils, schools, and NHS trusts?
Yes. We accept official Purchase Orders from state schools, academies, colleges, universities, NHS trusts, local councils, parish councils, housing associations, and all public sector organisations on 30-day credit terms. Class B fire-rating certification documentation is provided with all fire-rated boards for your compliance and procurement records. Volume discounts apply for large quantity orders. Contact our team to set up a trade account or to discuss a fit-out order covering multiple boards in a single consolidated purchase.
