Magnetic Whiteboards:
Dual-Purpose Dry Wipe Boards

Magnetic whiteboards combine a dry wipe writing surface with a steel backing that holds magnets, allowing printed documents, diagrams, and notices to be displayed alongside written notes without separate fixings. Two surface types: vitreous enamel (fired at 800°C for glass-like hardness, 25-year surface guarantee, scratch and ghosting resistant) and coated steel (cost-effective for general office use, good erasability). Glass magnetic boards use toughened safety glass with neodymium magnet compatibility. Sizes from A4 to 2400x1200mm. PO accepted from schools and NHS trusts.

A single magnetic whiteboard replaces both a noticeboard and a writing board in the same wall space. Use magnets to pin the project plan, safety memo, or patient notes at the top; write the current status, action points, or today's briefing below. Everything relevant to the session is visible on one surface without moving between two separate boards on opposite walls.

Our magnetic whiteboard range includes 1200x900mm magnetic whiteboards for small offices and meeting rooms, 1800x1200mm versions for larger classrooms and conference rooms, and glass magnetic boards for contemporary interiors. For mobile options see our freestanding whiteboards on castors.

Write and Display on the Same Surface

The steel backing allows standard whiteboard magnets to hold printed documents, photographs, safety memos, blueprints, and patient notes directly on the writing surface. Write annotations, action points, and updates below the attached documents. Everything relevant to the session is visible on one surface without switching between a whiteboard and a separate noticeboard on another wall.

Vitreous Enamel for Schools and Heavy Daily Use

Vitreous enamel surfaces are fired at 800°C, fusing a layer of glass to the steel substrate. The resulting surface has the hardness and impermeability of glass: virtually impossible to scratch, naturally resistant to ghosting, hygienic and easy to clean, and guaranteed against surface degradation for 25 years. The industry standard for classrooms, science labs, and NHS clinical environments where the board is used multiple times daily for years.

Coated Steel for General Office Use

Magnetic coated steel boards provide excellent erasability and reliable magnet hold at a lower price point than vitreous enamel, making them the practical choice for meeting rooms, reception areas, and general office positions where the board is used regularly but not under the intensive daily demands of a classroom or clinical environment. Good resistance to ghosting with regular cleaning using specialist whiteboard spray.

Pre-Printed Grid, Planner, and Tracker Boards

We offer magnetic boards pre-printed with 25mm or 50mm grids for mathematics teaching and technical drawing, annual calendar planners for project and resource scheduling, and In/Out staff trackers for office and ward management. Used with magnetic markers or coloured magnets, pre-printed boards create a permanent visual management system that combines writing and magnetic display in a structured layout for NHS patient tracking, sales team management, and school timetabling.

Glass Magnetic Boards for Contemporary Interiors

Our coloured glass magnetic boards use toughened safety glass over a steel backing, floating on chrome standoff mounts for a premium wall installation. The glass surface provides the smoothest writing experience of any whiteboard type and is completely non-porous, making it the most hygienic and ghost-proof option. Neodymium magnets required to penetrate the glass thickness to the steel plate behind.

Semi-Matt Enamel for Projection-Compatible Use

Standard gloss whiteboard surfaces reflect projector light and create hot spots that reduce the legibility of projected content. Our semi-matt vitreous enamel boards reduce surface reflectivity while maintaining full dry wipe and magnetic performance, providing a surface that works with both projected display and written content simultaneously. The standard specification for interactive teaching boards in classrooms combining whiteboard and projector use.

Enamel, Coated Steel or Glass?

For classrooms, science labs, and NHS clinical environments with intensive daily use by multiple users, vitreous enamel is the only surface that provides the durability and ghost resistance needed at this frequency. For meeting rooms, offices, and corporate environments with regular but less intensive use, coated steel provides excellent performance at a lower cost. For contemporary interiors where the board is part of the room design, glass magnetic boards provide the premium aesthetic and smoothest writing experience.

For Schools, Classrooms and NHS

Vitreous enamel magnetic boards are the specification standard for state schools, academies, and NHS trusts where durability and cleanability are procurement requirements. The 25-year surface guarantee, scratch resistance, and natural anti-ghosting properties justify the higher unit cost in environments where a coated steel board would require replacement within 5 to 7 years of intensive use. PO accepted on 30-day credit terms for all public sector organisations.

For Meeting Rooms and Offices

Magnetic coated steel boards provide the right balance of performance and cost for standard office meeting rooms and reception areas. Our 1200x900mm magnetic whiteboard suits small meeting rooms and desk-adjacent positions; the 1800x1200mm version suits larger boardrooms and open-plan collaboration areas where the board must be visible from a seated position across the room.

For Contemporary Offices and Creative Studios

Our glass magnetic boards suit creative agencies, tech companies, and premium corporate offices where the whiteboard is a design element as well as a functional tool. Available in white and coloured glass options on chrome standoff mounts. The completely smooth glass surface accepts dry wipe markers cleanly and wipes completely ghost-free with a dry cloth, providing a premium writing experience alongside magnetic document display.

What is the difference between vitreous enamel and coated steel magnetic whiteboards?
Vitreous enamel is produced by firing a glass layer onto the steel substrate at 800°C. The resulting surface has the hardness and impermeability of glass: scratch-resistant, naturally anti-ghosting, hygienic, and guaranteed for 25 years. The correct choice for classrooms, science labs, and clinical environments with intensive daily use by multiple users over many years. Coated steel uses a paint or lacquer coating applied to the steel surface. It is more affordable, provides good erasability and magnetic performance for general office use, but is more susceptible to surface scratching and ghosting over time under heavy use. The correct choice for meeting rooms and offices where the board is used regularly but less intensively than in a classroom.
How do I prevent ghosting on a magnetic whiteboard?
Ghosting (faint marks from previous writing visible through new content) results from marker ink absorbing into microscopic surface pores over time. To minimise it: wipe the board clean immediately after each session rather than leaving ink to set; use high-quality dry wipe markers rather than budget alternatives that use more porous ink formulations; and clean weekly with specialist whiteboard spray and a soft cloth to remove accumulated residue. For environments where ghosting is a persistent problem, upgrade to a vitreous enamel board, whose glass-like surface has no pores for ink to absorb into.
Are glass magnetic boards magnetic?
Yes. Glass magnetic boards have a steel plate behind the glass that responds to magnets. However, standard whiteboard magnets are often too weak to grip through the thickness of the glass to the steel plate. Neodymium (rare earth) magnets are required for reliable magnetic hold on glass boards. These are stronger, often smaller, and widely available. Standard fridge magnets and most coloured office magnets will not hold on a glass board.
Can I use a magnetic whiteboard with a projector?
Standard gloss whiteboard surfaces reflect projector light, creating bright hot spots that reduce the legibility of the projected image. For combined projection and writing use, specify a semi-matt vitreous enamel board, which reduces surface reflectivity while maintaining full dry wipe and magnetic performance. Angle the projector beam to minimise the angle of incidence on the board surface, as steeper projection angles produce less surface glare than shallower ones. Fully interactive whiteboard installations typically use projection screens or interactive flat panels rather than standard magnetic whiteboards.
How do I install a magnetic whiteboard?
Standard magnetic whiteboards come with a corner fixing kit including screws and wall plugs. Screw through the four board corners into the wall using the fixings supplied, then cover each screw head with the supplied plastic cap for a clean finish. Two people are recommended for boards larger than 1200x900mm to hold the board level against the wall while marking and fixing. Glass boards use chrome standoff wall mounts that hold the board 10 to 20mm off the wall surface, requiring a more precise marking and drilling process but producing a premium floating installation.
What sizes of magnetic whiteboard are available?
We stock a full range from small A4 magnetic boards for desk and door-adjacent positions up to 2400x1200mm for large classroom and boardroom walls. The most common office size is 1200x900mm for small meeting rooms and 1800x1200mm for larger rooms where the board must be visible from a seated position across the table. For classrooms where multiple students need to write simultaneously, 2400x1200mm provides sufficient width. Check individual product specifications for exact board dimensions and wall space required including the frame border.
