What file format and resolution should I supply for banner printing?

Supply artwork as a PDF at the final print size with 50mm bleed on all sides (banners require larger bleed than standard posters due to the cassette loading mechanism). Resolution of 150dpi at full print size is the minimum for banner printing; 300dpi at full size is preferred for designs with fine photographic detail or small text. Banner graphics are viewed from a minimum distance of 1 to 2 metres, so 150dpi at full size produces output that reads as continuous tone at normal viewing distance. Files below 100dpi at full size will produce visibly soft output in large logo and photographic areas. We provide templates with exact dimensions and bleed guides for all our standard banner stand sizes; download the template for your specific stand model before designing your artwork.

How do I fit a replacement graphic to my existing roller banner stand?

Roller banner replacement graphics fit into the cassette base by attaching the bottom edge of the graphic to the cassette bar (the method varies slightly between stand models: some use a clamp bar, some use an adhesive strip, some use a simple clip). The graphic then rolls into the cassette. The top edge of the graphic attaches to the top bar of the stand pole. The full process takes under 2 minutes once familiar with the specific base mechanism. What is the stoplight backing and why does it matter?

The stoplight backing is an opaque grey layer bonded to the reverse of the polypropylene banner material. Standard banner materials are semi-transparent: when placed in front of a window, positioned near strong spotlighting, or lit from behind, light passes through the back of the material and washes out the colours from behind, making the printed graphic look faded and dull. The grey stoplight layer is opaque and blocks all light from transmitting through the banner. Colours read at full saturation regardless of the lighting conditions at the display position. This is particularly important for banners used at exhibition venues with variable and often harsh overhead lighting that a standard semi-transparent banner cannot handle without colour wash-out.
