Freestanding Noticeboards:
Mobile and Portable Pinboards

Freestanding noticeboards are fabric-covered pinboards on floor-standing frames that require no wall fixing and reposition freely. Mobile versions have heavy-duty lockable castors for room-to-room movement. Static versions have wide T-legs for stable positioning without wheels. Double-sided fabric on both faces for display to foot traffic from both directions. Fire-retardant Class B versions for corridors and escape routes. Panel and pole modular systems link multiple boards to create exhibition walls, room dividers, and exam screens. Felt accepts pins; loop nylon accepts both pins and Velcro hook dots. PO accepted from schools and NHS trusts.

Freestanding noticeboards solve the problem of spaces that need display capacity but have no wall available, no permission to drill, or a requirement for the display to move between different positions throughout the week. A school hall used for assemblies, examinations, and art shows in the same week requires display that sets up and packs away in minutes. A university foyer with high bilateral foot traffic needs double-sided display visible from both directions. Neither application is served by a wall-mounted noticeboard.

Our freestanding noticeboard range includes individual mobile noticeboards on castors for single-board repositionable display, panel and pole modular systems for linked exhibition and partition walls, and double-sided units for open-area display visible from both approaches. For permanent wall-mounted display see our noticeboards collection.

Mobile on Lockable Castors for Room-to-Room Use

Our mobile noticeboards mount on sturdy steel frames with heavy-duty lockable castors. The board rolls freely for repositioning and locks in place during use, preventing any movement when notices are being pinned or read. Wheel from a storage corridor into a meeting room for a presentation, wheel to a reception area for an open day, wheel into a hall for an examination: the same board serves multiple functions throughout the week without any reinstallation. Two people can reposition a loaded board in under 60 seconds.

Double-Sided for Open-Area Bilateral Display

Almost all our freestanding units are fabric-covered on both faces independently, allowing different content to be displayed on each side simultaneously. In a university foyer, library entrance, or exhibition hall where visitors approach from multiple directions, a double-sided board visible from both approaches doubles the effective display area of a single unit. Different departments, sessions, or subjects can occupy each face, creating two independent display zones from a single freestanding unit position.

Panel and Pole Modular Systems for Exhibition Walls

Our panel and pole modular systems link multiple individual boards together using connecting poles, creating continuous display walls, zig-zag configurations, and enclosures of any length. The standard configuration for school art shows, career fairs, and science exhibitions where a long unbroken display surface is needed. Each panel section is double-sided and independently loaded, and the full assembly dismantles into individual panels and poles for compact flat storage between events.

Fire-Retardant Class B for Corridors and Escape Routes

UK building regulations require display surfaces in corridors, stairwells, and fire escape routes to be rated to BS EN 13501-1 Class B. Our fire-retardant freestanding noticeboards carry this rating and the documentation required to demonstrate compliance during fire safety inspections. A freestanding noticeboard without fire-rated fabric is non-compliant in these positions even though it is not wall-mounted. Select boards specifically marked as fire-rated or Class B for any position in a circulation area of a school, hospital, or public building.

Felt and Loop Nylon: Pin or Velcro Attachment

Felt fabric accepts standard push pins and map pins cleanly and holds them securely without tearing. Loop nylon (a woven fabric with a textured weave) accepts both standard pins and Velcro hook dots that press into the fabric loop structure without pins entirely, useful for displaying laminated or card-backed notices where pin holes would damage the surface finish. Check the individual product specification for fabric type: not all freestanding boards are loop nylon, and Velcro compatibility depends entirely on the fabric construction.

Room Division and Partition Screens

At 1800mm board height on a standing frame, our largest freestanding noticeboards are tall enough to function as effective room partitions, creating temporary examination screens, privacy zones in open-plan offices, and separated areas within a large hall. Unlike static partition walls, a freestanding noticeboard partition provides a display surface while dividing the space, and dismantles for storage when the partition is no longer needed. The panel and pole modular format allows partition walls of any length to be assembled and removed without any permanent installation.

Mobile Castors, Static Legs or Modular Panel System?

Choose mobile castors for boards that need to move between rooms and positions regularly throughout the week. Choose static T-legs for boards that will remain in one position for extended periods but are not permanently wall-mounted. Choose panel and pole modular systems for creating exhibition walls, partition screens, and linked display configurations that dismantle flat for storage between events.

For Schools, NHS, and Multi-Use Spaces

Mobile noticeboards on lockable castors suit school halls used for multiple purposes throughout the week, NHS vaccination centres and screening events requiring temporary display, and any institutional space where the same board must serve different functions in different positions. Fire-retardant Class B versions are required for school corridor and NHS corridor positions. PO accepted from all public sector organisations on 30-day credit terms.

For Exhibitions, Art Shows and Career Fairs

Our panel and pole modular systems create exhibition display walls of any length from linked panels that dismantle flat for storage. The standard format for school art exhibitions, university degree shows, science fairs, and career events where a long continuous double-sided display wall is needed for a defined period and then must be stored compactly between events.

For Open-Plan Offices and University Foyers

Double-sided freestanding noticeboards with static T-legs suit open-plan office positions where the board creates a reference and communication display accessible to staff approaching from multiple directions. In a university foyer or library entrance, a double-sided board visible from both entry and exit directions maximises display visibility without additional units. Portrait and landscape orientation options on assembly suit different content formats.

What is the difference between a mobile and a freestanding noticeboard?
Mobile noticeboards have wheels (lockable castors) fitted to the base of the stand, allowing the board to be rolled between rooms and positions and locked in place during use. They suit boards that need to move frequently, such as school boards used in different rooms throughout the week or NHS boards moved between departments for different events. Freestanding noticeboards with static T-legs have no wheels and sit stably on their leg feet; they are designed to remain in one general position for extended periods but can be picked up and repositioned by two people. Both types require no wall fixing. Choose mobile for frequent movement; choose static legs for a board that will largely stay in one area.
Are freestanding noticeboards required to be fire-rated in school corridors?
Yes. A freestanding noticeboard positioned in a school corridor, stairwell, or fire escape route is subject to the same fire safety regulations as a wall-mounted noticeboard in the same position. The requirement for BS EN 13501-1 Class B fire-rated fabric applies to the board surface regardless of whether the board is fixed to the wall or freestanding on the floor. A standard felt freestanding board without fire-rated fabric is non-compliant in a circulation area of a school or public building. Select boards specifically marked as fire-rated or Class B for all corridor and escape route positions, and confirm the rating with the supplier before purchase.
Can I use Velcro on a freestanding noticeboard?
Velcro hook-and-loop attachment depends entirely on the fabric type. Loop nylon fabric has a woven textured surface that Velcro hook tape grips into securely without pins, allowing laminated notices, card-backed signage, and foam-mounted displays to be attached without pin holes. Standard felt fabric does not have the loop structure required for Velcro attachment and accepts pins only. Check the individual product specification for the fabric type before purchasing if Velcro compatibility is a requirement. Velcro attachment is particularly useful for exhibition-quality printed notices where pin holes would be visible on a laminated surface.
How do panel and pole modular systems work?
Panel and pole systems consist of individual double-sided fabric-covered board panels that connect to each other via vertical aluminium poles at each panel joint. The poles slot into receivers on the panel edge and lock in position. Multiple panels connect end-to-end to create a straight display wall, or at angles for zig-zag and enclosure configurations. Total display length is determined by the number of panels: a 6-panel system at 1200mm wide per panel creates a 7.2m continuous display wall. Each panel is independently loaded on both sides. The full assembly dismantles into flat panels and pole sections for storage in a compact stack or carry bags between events.
Are freestanding noticeboards stable enough for public environments?
Yes, provided the correct base type is selected. Mobile boards on lockable castors are stable when locked; the locking mechanism prevents any movement during use and the wide castor spread provides lateral stability. Static T-leg boards have a wide leg spread that resists tipping under normal contact. Both types carry notices at heights that do not create a top-heavy tipping risk. In high-traffic public environments where deliberate or accidental contact with the board base is possible, the steel frame construction provides the structural rigidity to absorb contact without tipping. Check the individual product weight and base dimensions for specific stability specifications.
How long does assembly take and are tools required?
Most freestanding noticeboards arrive flat-packed with the board panel pre-upholstered and the frame requiring assembly. Assembly involves bolting the leg or castor frame to the board using the supplied hardware, taking typically 10 to 15 minutes with the supplied Allen key or spanner. No additional tools are required. Panel and pole modular systems require slotting the connecting poles into the panel receivers, which requires no tools and takes approximately 5 minutes per panel connection. Full assembly instructions are included with every unit.
Do you accept Purchase Orders from schools and NHS trusts?
Yes. We accept official Purchase Orders from state schools, academies, colleges, universities, NHS trusts, councils, and all public sector organisations on 30-day credit terms. Fire-rated certification documentation is provided with all Class B boards for compliance records.
