Keep Stock Clean Inside a Clear Clothes Rail Cover

A short rail rarely gets the best spot in a building. It goes in an alcove, behind the counter, or in the corner of a stockroom where dust falls on everything. The AG1520 covers that rail and keeps the clothes clean. It fits a rail four foot wide and five foot high. The clothes sit inside heavy duty clear PVC, so dust, dirt and damp stay on the outside. Nothing is hidden, because the cover is see-through. A rail can still be read and picked from with the front shut. Zips run from the top of the cover down to the bottom, so the whole front opens in one pull, and shuts the same way. The cover is light, so one person can fit it. Only Displaysense sells it, so no other shop stocks the same thing. Best suited for boutiques, exhibition stands and NHS or hospitality store rooms where clothing has to stay clean but still be easy to see.

Why a PVC Rail Cover Works in Storage and Retail

  • The whole front unzips: Zips run from the top of the cover to the bottom. Pull once and the front is open. Pull back and it is shut again. Nothing has to be lifted over the hangers, and no garment needs unhooking first. The cover stays on the rail while somebody reaches in.
  • Clear PVC keeps the rail readable: Colours, size tickets and hanger positions all show through the cover. Staff can find a piece before opening anything up. A stock count is done by eye along the rail, with no unzipping and re-zipping each time a number is needed.
  • Dust, damp and smells stay outside: Sealed in, clothes miss the grit that drifts round a stockroom. They miss the damp in a cold store, and the stale smell that gets into fabric left in still air for weeks. Garments come back out ready to hang, not ready for a steam and a brush down.
  • Made for a 4ft x 5ft rail: The cover is cut for a rail four foot wide and five foot high, so it sits tight rather than sliding along the top bar. A cover that is too big gathers at one end and leaves the other standing open to whatever dust is moving about the room.
  • Wipes clean with a wet cloth: Dust and marks come off the PVC with a damp cloth, and that is all the care the cover needs. It goes back over the rail as often as the rail is used, then folds down to almost nothing on a shelf in between. Nothing wears out in the washing.
  • One person can lift it on: The cover weighs very little. One person puts it on and takes it off, with no help and no fixings to sort out. Folded down it takes almost no room at all, so a spare rides in a van out to an event and comes home again after it.

Where a Zipped 4ft Garment Cover Fits a Tight Space

Boutiques and Independent RetailFloor space is tight, so a short rail often stands in a window return or beside the counter. It is on show all day. Covering it overnight keeps the stock clean. Nothing has to come off display, and the rail does not need wheeling out of the way first.
Exhibition Stands and Trade ShowsHalls are dusty places, and the vans that stock arrives in are dustier still. The cover goes on for the journey, and again at the overnight close. It comes off for the show with the clothes ready to hang, rather than ready for a steam first.
NHS and Healthcare StorageClean uniforms and gowns have to stay clean between issue points. A sealed cover keeps airborne dust off the fabric. Staff count what is left through the clear front, without opening the rail up or breaking the seal on the rest of it.
Hotels and Hospitality Store RoomsSpare linens, staff uniforms and event wear live on rails in rooms with a lot of coming and going. A covered rail means a set pulled out at short notice looks right straight away. Nothing needs pressing before it goes on.
Council and Public Sector StoresCeremonial robes, high visibility kit and seasonal uniforms can sit untouched for months on end. One zipped cover protects a whole rail through all of it. The clear front shows what is there, so nothing needs opening just to check.
Home Wardrobes and Spare RoomsA four foot rail on a landing or in a spare room takes the overflow from the wardrobe. Zipped inside clear PVC, that overflow stays tidy and free of dust. The clothes stay in sight too, instead of being shut away and then forgotten.

Working With a Longer Rail?

The same cover is cut for wider rails too, including a 5ft clothes rail cover and a 6ft version, both in the same heavy duty PVC, zipped the same way. Measure across the rail before ordering, because a cover cut wider will hang loose at the ends and let dust straight back in.

AG1520 is a 4ft Waterproof Zipped Transparent Clothes Rail Cover from Displaysense, available only from Displaysense. Zips run from the top of the cover to the bottom so the whole front opens without taking the cover off the rail. Dimensions 1220mm x 1600mm x 510mm. Weight 0.58kg. Transparent heavy duty PVC. Made to fit a 4ft clothes rail. Protects hanging clothing from dust, moisture and odours while keeping every garment visible. Reusable and light enough for one person to fit. Used in boutiques, independent retail, exhibition stands, trade shows, NHS and healthcare storage, hotel and hospitality store rooms, council uniform stores and domestic spare rooms. Also available for 3ft, 5ft and 6ft rails, and in a taller 4ft x 7ft version. Displaysense, UK display specialist based in Hertfordshire since 1978.

Short rails end up in awkward corners. Behind a till, at the end of a stockroom, beside a door that opens all day. Air moves through those spaces and carries fine dust with it. The dust settles on whatever faces upward, which on a rail means shoulders and collars. A cover stops it reaching the cloth at all. Whatever drifts about the room lands on the PVC instead, and a wet cloth takes it straight off again. Without a cover, the same job means brushing or steaming, and that has to be done to every garment hanging there before any of them go back out on display. On a rail of forty pieces it is most of a morning gone.

Smells travel the same way dust does. Fabric hanging in still air slowly takes on the smell of the room around it. That is why clothes pulled from a cold store or a cupboard nobody opens can smell stale when nothing is actually wrong with them. Sealing the rail keeps that air off the cloth. The same barrier holds damp back, which counts for most in unheated rooms. Moisture there moves in and out of fabric as the temperature rises and falls between day and night, and a season of that leaves clothes limp and musty. Zipped inside a cover, the same clothes come out in the state they went in.

Two zips run down the front, and how easily they open decides whether a cover gets used at all. Anything that has to be dragged up over a rail of hangers gets left off after the second or third time somebody is in a hurry. A zip takes a moment to open and another to close. The cover never leaves the rail while that happens. On a rail opened several times a day, that is the difference between a cover doing its job and a cover folded on a shelf. The zips also close the front along its whole height, which a sheet thrown over the top never manages at the corners.

One person handles this cover on their own. It weighs very little, so lifting it over a four foot rail takes no real effort, and there are no fixings, poles or clips to work out first. Taking it off is the same job backwards. Folded down it takes up almost no space, so a spare rides in a van to an event or sits on a stockroom shelf until the next season needs it. On and off as often as the rail is used, year after year, without the seams giving way. Nothing about the routine changes whether the rail is in a shop, a store room or a spare bedroom.

What Ships with This Rail Cover

Need Extra Height for Long Coats?

Where a four foot rail carries full length coats or evening dresses, the 4ft x 7ft clear clothes rail cover holds that same four foot span while running much further down, so hems finish inside the cover rather than below it collecting dust.

Common Questions on the 4ft Garment Cover

What is the best cover for a boutique clothes rail?
The best cover for a boutique clothes rail is the AG1520, a transparent garment cover made for a 4ft rail. A full length zip opens the front for access, white trim keeps the edges looking finished out on a shop floor, and the clear PVC leaves every garment on the rail visible from outside.
How does the zip work on this garment cover?
A single zip travels from top to bottom down the front, which means the whole face folds open in one movement and shuts again just as quickly afterwards. Anything hanging along the rail lifts straight out, with no PVC dragged up over the hangers first and nothing to unhook beforehand.
How do I keep clothes from picking up dust in a stockroom?
Cover the rail. Dust settles on shoulders, collars and anything else facing upward, which means brushing or steaming every piece again before it goes back out on display. A zipped cover puts a barrier between the clothing and the air in the room, and the PVC itself wipes clean with a damp cloth.
Is this rail cover suitable for hotels and hospitality store rooms?
Yes. Hotels and hospitality store rooms use this cover for staff uniforms, event wear and spare linens kept on rails in busy back-of-house spaces where trolleys and deliveries pass all day long. A set pulled out at short notice comes off the rail presentable, and the clear PVC shows exactly what remains without anything being opened up.
Can NHS and healthcare sites use this for uniform storage?
Yes, and clean uniform storage is one of the more common uses. Gowns and uniforms waiting on a rail have to stay clean between issue points, and a sealed cover holds airborne dust off them. Staff can still count what remains along the rail through the transparent front without breaking the seal.
How easy is the cover to fit and remove?
Straightforward, and very much a job for one person. At 0.58kg the cover lifts over a four foot rail without help, needs no fixings or assembly of any kind, and comes off again the same way. Folded down, the PVC takes up almost no room on a stockroom shelf or in a van heading out to an event.
What are the dimensions of this 4ft rail cover?
The cover measures 1220mm wide, 1600mm high and 510mm deep, sized around a four foot rail. That 510mm depth leaves room for a rail packed tight with hangers instead of pressing in against the shoulders of whatever is hanging underneath, which is where creasing usually starts.
Should I choose this or the 5ft cover?
Both use the same heavy duty PVC and full length zips, so the choice comes down to how wide the rail is. The AG9570 covers a five foot span, this one a four foot span. Run a tape across the top bar first: an oversized cover bunches at one end, leaves the other exposed and defeats the object.
Will full length coats fit inside this cover?
Garment length is the deciding factor here. Jackets, shirts, folded trousers and children's clothing all sit comfortably inside this cover. Once full length coats and evening dresses go on the rail, step up to the 4ft x 7ft version, which holds the same four foot span but runs a good deal further down.
How do I stop stored clothes smelling stale?
Still air is the cause, so the answer lies in keeping that air away from the cloth. Garments hanging for a season in an unheated back room or a cupboard nobody opens gradually take on the smell of the place, and a zipped cover shuts the rail off from that air along with any damp being carried in it.
Can I buy this cover anywhere else?
No. Displaysense is the only supplier carrying this garment cover, so nowhere else stocks it. Where rails get added to a stockroom one or two at a time, buying every cover from a single source keeps the cut, the thickness and the zip length matched across the whole row rather than drifting apart.
Does this cover ship free within the UK?
Yes, this garment cover goes out free of charge to UK mainland addresses, and returns stay open for 28 days. Supplying display and storage products since 1978, Displaysense works with independent boutiques, exhibition organisers, NHS trusts and hospitality groups the length of the country.

Rail Choices, Retail Display and Presenting Clothing Well

A cover protects what hangs on the rail, but the rail itself and the way clothing is arranged on it decide how the display reads to a customer. Height, spacing, finish and the order garments hang in all pull their weight. These four Displaysense guides between them cover choosing a rail, the finishes worth looking at now, and displaying clothing well in a retail setting.
