Glass Display Cabinets
Built to Protect What Matters Most
A display cabinet isn't storage. It's the difference between a collection kept in a box and a collection people stop to look at. Whether it's a championship trophy, a signed shirt, a first LEGO® modular, a museum artefact or a counter full of high-value stock, the right cabinet turns something valuable into something worth seeing every day.
A glass display cabinet is a lockable, illuminated enclosure with BS EN 12150 tempered safety glass panels, designed to showcase and protect valuable items. Also known as a display cupboard, vitrine, showcase or glass display case, a door glass display cabinet uses hinged glass doors so contents stay visible while secured. Available in wall-mounted, free-standing, countertop and trophy formats.
Since 1978, Displaysense has designed and manufactured commercial display cabinets with glass doors for retailers, museums, schools, collectors and public sector organisations across the UK. Unlike furniture retailers, we engineer for security, longevity and presentation: anodised aluminium frames, integrated cylinder locks, zero-heat LED lighting and tempered safety glass throughout.

Which Display Cabinet Is Right For You?
Choose your display cabinet by what you are displaying rather than by dimensions alone. Shelf spacing, cabinet depth, lock type and lighting all change depending on whether you are showing tall modular builds, flat trading cards, signed shirts, jewellery or museum artefacts. Select your collection type below for cabinet recommendations and buying guidance.
I want to display...
LEGO®, Models & Figures
Tall illuminated cabinets with fully adjustable shelving let modular buildings, UCS sets, die-cast vehicles and minifigure displays grow over time. Shelf spacing matters more than cabinet width here, because collections rarely stay one height. See our LEGO® display cabinets, model car display cabinets and action figure display cabinets.
Sports Memorabilia & Trophies
Signed shirts, footballs, medals and cups need depth as well as height, and a lock. Lockable tempered glass protects irreplaceable items while making them a feature rather than something kept in a loft. Browse sports memorabilia display cabinets and trophy cabinets.
Retail & Point of Sale
Integrated locking, professional LED lighting and commercial construction create secure product displays that encourage handling requests rather than losses. The 1000mm and 1200mm units line up for counter runs. See locking display cabinets, counter top display cases and watch and jewellery display cabinets.
Schools, Colleges & Universities
Display awards, trophies and student achievement in corridors and receptions without losing floor space. Toughened glass, lockable doors and purchase order ordering are all standard. Full guidance on our display cabinets for schools, colleges and universities page.
Museums & Heritage
Dust-proof perimeter seals, BS EN 12150 tempered glass and zero-heat LED systems that won't fade or warp artefacts. Suitable for permanent and touring exhibitions, and available in bespoke sizes for listed buildings and awkward gallery spaces.
Bespoke Sizes
If a standard glass display cupboard won't fit, we manufacture bespoke display cabinets to your dimensions, finish, glass specification and lighting layout. Alcoves, listed buildings, non-standard ceiling heights and branded retail fit-outs are routine work.

Why Choose a Commercial Display Cabinet Over Domestic Furniture?
The main differences between a domestic glass cabinet and a commercial display cabinet are security, glass specification and lighting. Domestic furniture is designed to store items; a commercial display cabinet is designed to secure, illuminate and protect them. Commercial cabinets use BS EN 12150 tempered safety glass throughout, an integrated lock as standard, an aluminium frame rather than particleboard, and an LED system built into the unit. For everyday ornaments domestic furniture is often fine. For valuable collections, retail stock or public displays, the specification gap matters.
| Feature | Domestic glass cabinet | Displaysense commercial cabinet |
|---|---|---|
| Locking | Rarely included | Integrated cylinder lock as standard |
| Glass | Often untempered, or tempered on doors only | BS EN 12150 tempered throughout |
| Lighting | Aftermarket, if at all | Zero-heat LED built into the frame |
| Shelving | Fixed or few positions | Fully adjustable |
| Frame | Particleboard and veneer common | Anodised aluminium |
| Dust sealing | Not specified | Dust-proof perimeter seals |
| Bespoke sizes | Not available | Made to order |
| Replacement glass | Discontinued lines, no parts | Replacement glass and parts supplied |
| Intended use | Domestic storage and ornaments | Retail, museum, education and collector display |
If you are protecting expensive collectibles, retail stock or a public display, a commercial cabinet gives you higher security, stronger construction and a longer service life. It is also the only option if the cabinet has to meet a safeguarding or fire specification, which is why schools, councils and museums specify commercially rather than buying furniture.
What Nearly Five Decades Has Taught Us
The Three Mistakes We See Most Often
We have been designing and supplying display cabinets since 1978, to national museums, independent retailers, universities, schools, sports clubs, visitor attractions and collectors. Over that time the same three buying mistakes come up again and again.
Buying too small
Collections grow. Almost nobody's collection is finished. Customers regularly buy an 800mm cabinet and come back for a larger one within the year, and by then the first cabinet no longer matches the second. Buying one size up at the outset is nearly always cheaper than buying twice, and the difference in price between widths is usually less than people expect.
Choosing furniture instead of display equipment
The gap here shows up slowly rather than immediately. A door that doesn't lock is an inconvenience on day one and a problem the first time a room is left unattended. Glass that isn't safety rated only matters once. Shelves sag under weight they were never rated for, and when something finally breaks there are no parts, because the line was discontinued two seasons ago. None of it is obvious in the showroom. All of it is obvious in year three.
Skipping the lighting
Lighting is the upgrade customers most often wish they had taken. An unlit cabinet in a corridor or a corner disappears into the wall. A professional zero-heat LED system lights every shelf evenly without generating the heat that fades card, paper, fabric and paintwork. It is also the hardest thing to retrofit neatly once a cabinet is built and installed.
After almost five decades of designing display cabinets, the pattern is consistent: people rarely regret buying a better cabinet. They regret outgrowing the one they bought too soon. That is why adjustable shelving, integrated lighting and commercial construction are standard across our range rather than upgrades.

Why Displaysense
We manufacture rather than resell, and every cabinet is designed around four principles: protect the contents, present them well, adapt as the collection changes, and last long enough to be worth the investment.
Protect
BS EN 12150 tempered safety glass, integrated cylinder locks and commercial construction on every aluminium display cabinet.
Present
Zero-heat LED systems create gallery-quality lighting. Every glass display cabinet with lights illuminates evenly without damaging sensitive items.
Adapt
Adjustable shelving lets cabinets change as collections do. Choose a wall mounted display cabinet with glass doors or a free standing unit for 360° visibility.
Last
Anodised aluminium construction built for years of service in retail, education and museums, with replacement glass and parts available rather than discontinued.
Theft Prevention
Recessed cylinder locks in every lockable glass display cabinet, designed to stop theft without spoiling the finish.
Finish Options
From black display cabinets to silver, white and wooden frames, matched across a full fit-out.
Compare Formats
Which Display Cabinet Format Do You Need?
Choose your format by the space you have. A wall mounted display cabinet saves floor space and suits corridors, receptions and school foyers. A free standing glass display cabinet gives 360° visibility and suits shop floors and collector rooms. A countertop display cabinet sits on an existing counter for jewellery, watches and high-value small items. Tall tower cabinets give maximum shelf height in the smallest footprint.
| Format | Best for | Typical setting | Key benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wall mounted | Memorabilia, trophies, literature, small products | Schools, receptions, corridors, clubhouses | Zero floor space used |
| Free standing | Collections, retail ranges, exhibition pieces | Shop floors, museums, collector rooms | Viewable from all sides |
| Countertop | Jewellery, watches, high-value small items | Tills, counters, service desks | Secure at point of sale |
| Tall tower | Tiered collections, models, glassware | Homes, galleries, showrooms | Maximum height, small footprint |
| Trophy cabinet | Cups, shields, medals, honours boards | Schools, sports clubs, universities | Lockable, high visibility |
| Corner | Compact collections, awkward rooms | Living rooms, dining rooms, offices | Uses dead corner space |
All formats are available as a lockable display cabinet with tempered safety glass, adjustable shelving and professional LED lighting. If you need a size we don't stock, we build bespoke display cabinets to order.
Specification
Glass Display Cabinet Specification
Displaysense glass display cabinets are built with BS EN 12150 tempered safety glass in an anodised aluminium frame, with an integrated cylinder lock, adjustable glass shelving rated to 12kg per shelf, and a zero-heat LED lighting system. Standard widths are 800mm, 1000mm and 1200mm, with the 1000mm and 1200mm units supplied with a 10-point LED array.
| Specification | Detail | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Glass standard | BS EN 12150 tempered safety glass | Breaks into blunt granules rather than shards, which is why it is specified in schools, retail and public buildings |
| Frame material | Anodised aluminium | Will not swell, sag or delaminate the way particleboard does, and carries glass weight over decades rather than years |
| Standard widths | 800mm, 1000mm, 1200mm | Units line up flush for counter runs and foyer walls, so a display can be extended later without mismatched finishes |
| Lighting | Zero-heat LED, 10-point array on 1000mm and 1200mm units | Even illumination across every shelf without the heat that fades card, paper, fabric and paintwork |
| Security | Integrated cylinder lock recessed into the frame | Contents stay fully visible while secured, and the lock does not spoil the frame line the way a surface-fitted hasp does |
| Shelf load | 12kg per shelf, uniformly distributed load | Enough for die-cast collections, ceramics and trophies, provided weight is spread across the shelf rather than concentrated in one spot |
| Shelving | Adjustable glass shelves | Reconfigure the cabinet as the collection changes instead of replacing the whole unit |
| Sealing | Dust-proof perimeter seals | Reduces cleaning and protects unsealed, porous or textile items from airborne dust |
| Design origin | UK designed, manufacturing since 1978 | Specification, tooling and parts stay consistent, so replacements still fit years after purchase |
Trusted Since 1978
Nearly five decades has taught us something a brochure never will. People rarely buy a display cabinet because they need another piece of furniture. They buy one because they have finally ended up with something worth protecting, and the shoebox, the loft or the sideboard has stopped being good enough.
We don't just sell cabinets, we engineer them. Displaysense remains one of the UK's original specialists in glass display cases, and when you buy from us you are buying from the source.
Our cabinets are used by national museums, independent retailers, universities and schools, sports clubs, visitor attractions, luxury brands and collectors across the UK. From premium retail displays to collector display cabinets for memorabilia and model collections, we help customers show valuable items safely and professionally.
Every unit is backed by BS EN 12150 safety certification and anodised aluminium construction, with replacement glass and parts available for years after purchase rather than discontinued when a line changes.
