Showcase a Valued Product With a Lit Display Case

Plenty of selling happens sitting down. A jewellery consultation, a mortgage appointment, a car handover, a hotel check-in, a clinic waiting room. In all of those the customer is in a chair, and anything standing at full height goes straight over their head. The DP130W is the lowest of the four at 1300mm, which brings the glass down level with the eyes of somebody seated rather than for somebody walking past. Two LED spots light whatever is inside against gloss white. The base holds a locking drawer for whatever staff want to hand, and a shelved cupboard behind a locking door for everything else, and neither one gives itself away from the front. Both lights come fitted, so nothing needs wiring on the day. At 53kg it is also the easiest of the four to shift when a room gets rearranged between appointments during the week. Best suited for consultation rooms, waiting areas and reception desks where the person you are selling to is sitting down rather than walking past.

Why a 1300mm Display Cabinet Suits a Waiting Area

  • Eye level for a seated customer: The glass lands where somebody in a chair is already looking, rather than above them. In a consultation room or a waiting area that is the difference between a display being studied properly and being missed altogether across a whole appointment.
  • Keyed apart, top from bottom: Desk paperwork and a card reader live in the shallow drawer. Everything boxed lives behind the door beneath. Different keys, so passing one to a colleague at the desk does not pass them the other, and neither compartment is visible at all from where a customer is sitting.
  • Lighting already fitted inside: Both LED spots sit within the glazed section on delivery, so nothing needs mounting, wiring or aiming when the cabinet is put in place. A mains lead runs out through a port in the back panel and away from where anybody happens to walk or sit down.
  • Toughened safety glass all round: All four faces are toughened, which is what premises admitting the public are required to use. That distinction earns itself in a seated room, where somebody spends twenty minutes within touching distance and nothing else to occupy them.
  • Storage that stays out of the conversation: The drawer sits flush in the body and locks, so it reads as part of the cabinet. Files, a card reader and a set of keys stay within reach of a desk without any of it becoming part of what the customer is actually there to look at.
  • The lightest one to shift: At 53kg this is the lightest cabinet in the range, which counts where a room is turned round between appointments or a display travels on between branches. Gloss white keeps the attention on whatever is inside the glass above it.

Places a Wooden Lockable Plinth Works Best

Jewellery Consultation RoomsA piece presented across a table while the customer is seated, with trays, boxes and paperwork locked in the base rather than spread out where the conversation is happening.
Bank and Advisor Meeting RoomsBranded items, awards or product samples shown at seated eye level during an appointment, with files and literature stored below and out of the way of the desk.
Vehicle Handover and Sales LoungesAccessories, keys, branded pieces and paperwork presented while a customer waits or signs. The cabinet sits at the right height for people who are seated for half an hour.
Hotel Lobbies and LoungesA signature product, an award or a seasonal piece lit beside a seating group. The lower height suits a lounge where most people are sitting rather than passing through.
Clinics and Private Waiting RoomsProduct ranges or brand pieces shown to a seated audience with time on their hands, while stock and cleaning kit stay locked away from anybody left alone in the room.
Independent Boutiques and StudiosA single item lit in a tight footprint where floor space is scarce. The compact height leaves sightlines across a small room open rather than dividing it in two.

Choosing Between Four Heights?

This is the shortest of four, with 1400mm, 1500mm and 1600mm above it. Seated rooms take this one, counters take the middle heights and an open floor takes the tallest. Tell us the room, who is standing and who is sitting, and we will work through it with you.

Call us on 01279460460 or tell us about the room and we will come back to you with a recommendation.

DP130W is a White Lockable Wooden Display Plinth with LEDs, Hidden Drawer and Internal Shelf from Displaysense. What marks it out is the shortest height in the range, placing the glazed case at the eyeline of a seated customer. Also known as a display cabinet, a lockable glass showcase or a gloss white display plinth. Dimensions 1300mm high x 400mm wide x 400mm deep. Weight 53kg. Wooden body in a gloss white finish. Showcase glazed all round all round in safety glass, toughened. Two LED spotlights supplied already fitted inside the case. Mains powered through a rear cable port. Hidden lockable top drawer. Lockable internal shelving in the base. Two separate locks in total. Supplied flat packed for assembly. Used in jewellery consultation rooms, bank meeting rooms, advisor offices, car showroom handover areas, hotel lobbies, lounges, clinics, private waiting rooms, small boutiques and studio retail. Three taller heights are offered in the same range. Displaysense, UK display product specialists since 1978.

Retail display is usually planned around a customer on their feet. Sightlines, browsing height, what catches an eye at ten paces. That thinking falls apart wherever the customer sits down, and a great deal of high-value selling happens exactly there. Somebody in a chair looks at a different band of the wall entirely, roughly a foot lower than they would standing. This cabinet is 1300mm precisely so that the glass lands inside that band rather than above it. Height is not about presence in this case. It is about matching the person who is actually doing the looking.

The base earns its place because two locks are better than one. Paperwork, a card reader and a set of keys go in the drawer, within arm's reach of whoever is at the desk. Boxed stock and cleaning kit go in the cupboard beneath, which only opens at the start and end of a day. Separate keys mean somebody can get at the first without ever getting at the second, and somewhere a customer is occasionally left on their own, that distinction is worth having.

Both LED spotlights arrive fitted inside the glazed section, so setting up is a matter of building the cabinet and plugging it in. The lead runs out through the rear panel, which keeps it away from chair legs and feet. Lighting counts for more in a seated room than a shop floor, because somebody who has been sitting there for twenty minutes will look at whatever is lit long before they look at anything that is not. Attention in a waiting room goes wherever the light goes.

Glazing is toughened safety glass on every face, a grade meant for public rooms rather than domestic furniture, which matters where people sit close enough to touch it. The body is wood in gloss white throughout. At 53kg it is the lightest of the four heights, so a room can be turned round between appointments without calling in a lifting crew. It ships flat packed with fixings included and the glass wrapped panel by panel for the journey out to you afterwards.

Questions About This Lockable Display Cabinet

Q: What is the best display cabinet for a consultation room?

A: The DP130W suits that job particularly well. At 1300mm it is the lowest of the four, which puts the glass level with the eyes of somebody in a chair rather than somewhere above their head entirely. Two LED spots light whatever is inside against gloss white, and both of the compartments in the base lock quite separately from one another.

Q: How tall is this lockable display case?

A: 1300mm overall, the shortest in the range. Somebody sitting down looks at a band roughly a foot lower than they would standing, and this height puts the glass inside that band. Taller cabinets at 1400mm, 1500mm and 1600mm suit rooms where people are on their feet.

Q: Is the lighting installed before it arrives?

A: It is, entirely. Both spots sit inside the glazed section, positioned and connected, by the time the pallet turns up with you. Building the cabinet and then finding a socket for it is the whole of the job. The flex leaves at the back through a cut opening, so it never crosses the floor where the chairs sit.

Q: How many locks does this lockable plinth have?

A: Two, and each one of them takes its own key. The hidden drawer and the lower cupboard open quite separately, so a member of staff reaches the paperwork twenty times through an appointment without the boxed stock in the cupboard underneath ever being opened up even once.

Q: Is the glass rated for public premises?

A: It is, on all four faces. Ordinary furniture glazing is not permitted where the public are admitted, and the reasoning shows up in a seated room more than anywhere: somebody spends twenty minutes at arm's length from the thing, and anything that does break has to break into granules rather than into anything sharp.

Q: How much room is there behind the glass?

A: A clear 400mm square, floor to lid, with no centre post or divider breaking it up. That takes a boxed piece, an award or a product sample without crowding. Access is through a dedicated door on the upper section, so swapping over what is on show never means dismantling any part of the case.

Q: What can I store in the cabinet base?

A: Everything a meeting room accumulates across a week. The shelved cupboard takes the boxed stock, the cleaning kit and all of the literature, while the hidden drawer above it holds a card reader, the files and a set of keys. Both lock separately, which matters a good deal wherever a customer is occasionally left on their own in there.

Q: Is the drawer visible from the customer side?

A: No, not at all. It sits flush in the cabinet body and reads as part of the structure rather than as any kind of storage at all, so nothing about the front suggests there is anything behind it. That counts a great deal where somebody sits looking at it through a long appointment.

Q: How heavy is the display cabinet once built?

A: 53kg once it has been assembled, which makes this the lightest one in the range. That is still enough to stand firm without being fixed down, and it means a room gets turned round between appointments without calling in a lifting crew or drilling anything into a leased floor.

Q: Does it arrive built or flat packed?

A: Flat packed, with all of the fixings included and the glass wrapped panel by panel for the journey. Two people and a clear stretch of floor make the build straightforward enough. The lighting is the one thing already dealt with for you, since both spots come fitted before it ships.

Q: Which height should I choose out of the four?

A: Go by whether your customer is standing up or sitting down when they see it. Seated rooms take this one at 1300mm, close viewing of valuables suits the 1400mm, a counter or a welcome desk suits the 1500mm, and an open shop floor takes the 1600mm quite comfortably.

Q: Is UK delivery included on this display cabinet?

A: Delivery to the UK mainland costs nothing at all. At 53kg the cabinet still travels in on a pallet, so a delivery point with reasonable access is worth checking over before you order one of these. A 28-day returns policy applies here just as it does across the standard range.

Guides to Merchandising and Customer Experience

A lit cabinet holds attention in a room where somebody already has time on their hands, which is a different job from catching an eye on a shop floor. These four guides cover merchandising ideas worth trying, visual merchandising in a store, in-store branding and building a much better experience for whichever customer is sitting right in front of you.
