The FF5000SP stands five metres and its long tapered profile ripples, arcs and catches the light all day, so a name registers with somebody who was not looking for it. Why a Tall Feather Flag Catches the Eye Moving

Glass fibre is doing a job a stiffer material could not. A five-metre pole has serious leverage on whatever holds it down, so a rigid shaft would pass every gust straight into the spike and work it loose across an afternoon. Composite bends along its whole length instead, taking the energy up the pole and releasing it as the gust passes. The flexible curve at the tip is what gives the feather its shape and keeps the cloth from winding round the pole.
